Jazz

Rocks makes you high, but Jazz,
makes you horny.

I keep thinking about this sentence every time I go to a Jazz concert now after a live performance in Prague in May this year.

Pat Metheny holds a guitar which roars like a sax. His skill is brilliant but what interesting about Jazz is, in live which is even obvious, there often has a guy, whose rhythm line, vision of music or using the most straightfoward way, just some simple notes, the sounds can suddenly calls your intrinsic nature and soon you realize that this guy is the killer. In tonight's show, his name is Brad Mehldau.

Metheny, in a degree you can label him as a pioneer of contemporary Jazz. His sounds isn't always swing but combines Rock beat, Blues and the so-called guitar hero's image. He is an aggressive musician but what the shame is, his pianoist company, Mehldau, uses the traditional and foundmental touch to touch the audience. In music, there is a saying, pitch is money, yet it doesn't always work in Jazz, an intellectual music form. It is very competitive, somehow even curel especially during the jam battle. It requires musician's instinct react and which has to be very, very beautiful. You have to be very sensitive to adjust the concept of music line, the structure, cause no one likes to follow the rules if there is a one.

You can play safe but you won't get encore. And Jazz, it always tends to reach out its definition and understanding and then sublimates into, music. An incarnation, isn't it? So we no longer sure what music we are listening now. we even start to doubt and contemplate that what is Jazz, and what's the point to know, to distinguish, to define what Jazz is? Ironically, that is what so-called Jazz music teaches me.

Forget all these ballocks, would you like to go to a Jazz concert with me, ladies?
